Aalto-yliopiston CHEMARTS  yhdistää biomateriaalien tutkimuksen ja muotoilun. Yhteistyön tärkein tavoite on innostaa eri alojen opiskelijat ja tutkijat kehittämään uusia ideoita liittyen selluloosan ja  muiden biomateriaalien hyödyntämiseen. Kesällä 2017 opiskelijoiden materiaaleina olivat mm. pajunkuori, kuusenkuori, sahajauho, maa-aines, järviruoko, nanoselluloosa ja selluloosa-asetaatti. Materiaalikokeiluiden pohjalta opiskelijat kehittivät kestävän kehityksen huomioivia tuoteideoita ja konsepteja.

CHEMARTS collaboration and DWoC research project will be part of the NAKUNA exhibition organized by Aalto University Department of Design.

Designing Biomaterials for the Future

CHEMARTS is a long-term collaboration since 2011 between two Aalto University schools, The School of Chemical Engineering and The School of Arts, Design and Architecture. CHEMARTS courses and other activities focus on biomaterials, especially on wood-based cellulose. The main aim is to inspire future designers and material scientists to work together, and to create new ideas and materials based on sustainability. Read More

Exhibition: New Biomateriality Lab in Enter and Encounter 24.3.–22.10.2017, Designmuseum

What: The New Biomateriality Lab presents new Finnish biomaterials, mainly based on wood. All materials have been invented and produced in multidisciplinary research projects. The exhibition is coordinated by Aalto University’s CHEMARTS collaboration and participating projects are DWoC, NoMa, Hiilinielu Designstudio and Trash2Cash. The main partners are Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Technical University of Tampere, Universities of Applied Sciences in Lahti and Tampere, University of Vaasa and Design Forum Finland, in collaboration with various companies, funded by Tekes and EU.
