What: Seminar

What happens when scientific expertise meets creative hands-on design in materials research? In what ways can these different approaches inform each other? Why is collaboration, in all its various forms, so meaningful?

The seminar is organized by the Aalto University Bioinnovation Center to celebrate the long career of Aalto Distinguished Professor Tapani Vuorinen as a researcher, educator, and industry partner.

Alongside his scientific career, Professor Tapani Vuorinen has been running CHEMARTS study courses with Professor Pirjo Kääriäinen since 2011, teaching over 1,000 students. This long-standing collaboration is based on a solid foundation of in-depth disciplinary expertise, a sense of curiosity, respect for others and a dedication to collaborative work. Now is the time to reflect on the key lessons learned and discuss the future vision for bio-based materials research. This seminar will explore scientific and design-oriented approaches to the sustainable use and processing of biomass and will highlight collaboration across academic disciplines and between academia and industry. New ways of working can lead to significant and unexpected outcomes – and it can be fun!

The program is tentative and some changes may still occur.
