Nordic Biomaterials with CHEMARTS was organised as part of Aalto University International Summer School programme in 2021-2025. The course was graduate-level and open for participants with different backgrounds, degrees and professions.
The focus was on bio-based materials, especially wood- and plant-based. These materials offer one possible pathway towards a more sustainable material world: they come from renewable sources, can be modified on a chemical level, and can be used for recyclable or biodegradable products. During the course, students learned about materials and experimental material research, and experienced how interdisciplinary collaboration can be done in practice. About 100 students across the world participated in the courses.
