In Finland, roadsides are usually mown twice a summer, and studies have shown that mown vegetation should be removed to increase the biodiversity and reduce the eutrophication of the area. This experimental project explores the potential of fireweed, one of the most common plants on the roadsides. During the project, fireweed bast fibres were collected in wintertime, spun into yarn using a drop spindle, and knitted into experimental textile.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” width=”1\/2″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_gallery type=”flexslider_style” images=”4930,4997,4931,4998,4943″ onclick=”link_image”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
[vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″ shape_divider_position=”bottom”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” width=”1\/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]Aalto CHEMARTS alumna Iines Jakovlev, who received the Ornamo Award for her…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":4990,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[50],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4989"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4989"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4989\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5001,"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4989\/revisions\/5001"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/4990"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4989"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4989"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/chemarts.aalto.fi\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4989"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
