Exploring critical topics of material health in the context of the climate crisis,\u00a0Material Health argues that there is an urgent need for new paths and practices\u00a0in architecture and design in order to create healthier futures for everyone. From\u00a0a multi-disciplinary perspective, it offers an overview of how design can be\u00a0transformed to shape healthier lives, and offers examples of how through a\u00a0deeper understanding of the fundamental issues threatening our planet and\u00a0human species we can radically change the future.<\/p>\n

The book first sets out two main themes that situate the work being undertaken\u00a0in the field of material health: the importance of old and new indigenous\u00a0understandings of our planet; and the climate crisis. Six thematic chapters\u00a0follow, which explore the intersectional and complex nature of material health,\u00a0describe strategies to achieve material health and provide examples of\u00a0innovative, sustainable materials and their uses.<\/p>\n

The Healthy Materials Lab at Parsons School of Design is a leading research\u00a0center dedicated to a world in which people\u2019s health is placed at the center of all\u00a0design decisions.
