2019 the Ministry of Education and Culture has awarded the Finland Prize to nine artists and collectives who have shown exceptional accomplishment in recent times.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Among this year\u2019s prize recipients were two persons from Aalto University: Professor of Practice of Design driven fibre innovation\u00a0Pirjo K\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4inen<\/strong> and Aalto ARTS alumna, photographer, filmmaker and activist Marja Helander.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pirjo K\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4inen has been facilitating interdisciplinary CHEMARTS<\/a> collaboration between the School of Arts, Design and Architecture and the School of Chemical Engineering since 2011. CHEMARTS aims at inspiring students and researchers to explore biomaterials together, and to create new concepts for the future use of plant-based materials. There are several ongoing research projects on bio-based materials, where the team explores design driven technology development processes in materials research, and creates future oriented concepts, applications and business seeds for the more sustainable world of materials.<\/p>\n

\u201dI’m truly grateful and appreciate this award. I want to\u00a0acknowledge\u00a0also all the great people and organizations that I have had a chance to work with in different times during my career \u2013 I never work alone, always with others,” says Pirjo K\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4inen.<\/i><\/p>\n

Palkinnon sai Taiteiden ja suunnittelun korkeakoulun ty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4professori, muotoilija Pirjo K\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4inen<\/strong>, joka on 2010-luvun alusta l\u00e4htien ollut ratkaisevassa asemassa pohdittaessa, tutkittaessa ja koeteltaessa keinoja uudistaa tekstiilien materiaalipohjaa, siirt\u00e4en sit\u00e4 kohti kest\u00e4v\u00e4n kehityksen ja kiertotalouden periaatteita ja k\u00e4yt\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4. Samalla on ollut tavoitteena kotimaisten materiaalien nykyist\u00e4 laajempi hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4minen.<\/p>\n

K\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4inen on ollut keskeinen tekij\u00e4 siin\u00e4 Aalto-yliopiston taiteiden ja suunnittelun sek\u00e4 saman yliopiston Kemian tekniikan korkeakoulun CHEMARTS<\/a>-yhteisty\u00f6ss\u00e4, joka johti selluloosapohjaiseen tekstiili-innovaatioon. Parhaillaan K\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4inen ja h\u00e4nen yhteisty\u00f6kumppaninsa ovat laajentaneet muotoilu- ja taidel\u00e4ht\u00f6ist\u00e4 teknologiankehitt\u00e4mist\u00e4\u00e4n yleisemminkin bio- ja kasvipohjaisiin materiaaleihin.<\/p>\n

\u201dOlen todella iloinen t\u00e4st\u00e4 tunnustuksesta, arvostan sit\u00e4 todella paljon. Haluan kuitenkin nostaa esiin kaikki ne hienot ihmiset ja yhteis\u00f6t joiden kanssa olen saanut tehd\u00e4 ty\u00f6t\u00e4 el\u00e4m\u00e4ni eri vaiheissa \u2013 en tee koskaan ty\u00f6t\u00e4 yksin, vaan aina yhdess\u00e4 muiden kanssa\u201d, sanoo Pirjo K\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4inen.<\/em><\/p>\n
